The MCAT is a computer-based standardized test given to possible medical students in both Canada and the U.S. The idea behind it is to test problem solving, critical thinking, scientific knowledge and written analysis. The basis of the test's origin was skyrocketing med-school dropout rates in the 1920's, and educators wanted to ensure that future students were prepared.

The test can be taken at 25 or more different times per year at Prometric test centers. Most MCAT participants are college undergrads who are a year or two away from trying out for medical school. The test has three sections (Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, Bio Sciences) and an optional Trial Section. Total test time is 3 hours 20 minutes, or just over 4 hours with the 4th section.

With the MCAT focused heavily on Science, MCAT test prep courses will focus mostly on science, particularly biology, with a medical basis. Test takers are also going to need to be able to properly interpret information and write up their interpretations clearly.

MCAT prep courses offered by MCAT tutors or MCAT prep schools on ClassClassifieds are typically private MCAT preparation lessons, group MCAT preparation lessons, or online MCAT preparation lessons. What are you waiting for? Prepare yourself for the MCAT today!
