Surfing is a sport involving a rider balancing on a board while riding waves towards shore. This can be done by riders standing on their feet, but also from the knees or laid down on a body board, dependent on the rider's experience and comfort level. There are offshoots such as stand up paddle boarding, where riders actually row across calm seas while standing on a board, but standard surfing involves fast moving currents and waves.
Polynesian culture is where the history of surfing begins. It's uncertain how long the people of the area took part in surfing, but it first began to be witnessed by Western eyes sometime in the mid 18th Century. It became a popular recreational sport in Hawaii in the 20th Century, eventually spreading to virtually every location on Earth with the right mix of conditions and waves. However, other forms such as wake surfing (performing tricks off the wake of a powerboat) have allowed the sport to spread further. Those wishing for something very different might try body surfing. In this version of the sport, there is no board. Bodysurfers wear a special set of swim fins and nothing else. And indoor surfing pools have also sprung up in many locations, often used as training facilities or for surfers to keep their skills up in the off season. As well, kite surfing lessons or wind surfing lessons can teach surfers those variants of the sport, with different equipment required for each.
Surfing can be a difficult sport in the beginning, since it takes time to develop the balance and skills necessary to stay upright while riding a wave. Surfers need to be skilled swimmers before starting.
All types of surfing lessons are offered through ClassClassifieds, including children’s surfing lessons, women’s surfing lessons, and men’s surfing lessons.

Another great way to learn surfing is by joining a surfing club or by attending a surfing camp (perhaps a surfing summer camp?), which you can find on ClassClassifieds!

Surfing classes offered through teachers on ClassClassifieds are typically with a private surfing instructor or at a surfing academy, although online surfing lessons may also be available. What are you waiting for? Take a surfing lesson and learn how to surf!
